Granada

On the way to our second all-day trip, which was to Granada, I took some pictures of the countryside speeding by outside the window of the bus.  The trees seen in the pictures below are olive trees, which are planted all over the countryside.  One of Spain’s main exports is olive oil.  In fact, when you buy olive oil that appears to be from Italy, it may in fact have come from Spain.

While in Granada, we visited the Alhambra palace, which is yet another example of beautiful Islamic architecture.  Intricate wall carvings, vast pools of water, and a courtyard of lions were some of the sights we beheld at this magnificent palace.

As per usual, I was most impressed by the gardens.  I think what made the nature stand out so much for me at all this palaces is that they make the buildings feel like they’re still alive.  Even though the people who created and inhabited them are long gone, life still blooms throughout the expanses of these places.

We also got to meet some adorable frogs.  J
También conocimos algunas ranas adorables.

On the last leg of our excursion, we visited the church in which Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand are buried.  We weren’t allowed to take any pictures in the church, so I don’t have any to include.  What struck me the most was the opulence of the church contrasted with the coffins in which the Queen and King were buried.  Their caskets were of simple wood, which seems quite humble to me.  However, the whole rest of the church was extravagant.

During our time in Spain, we were lucky enough to stay in a place that had such a rich history.  One of the sights that anyone who visits Córdoba simply must see is the mosque.  What makes this mosque so special is its architecture.  The mosque had been expanded a few times in the past by various people and even houses a cathedral inside it.  We were told that the multiple building expansions were done to accommodate more worshipers.  The architecture in each addition varies so greatly that you feel like you are in a completely different place upon entering a new room.  Below you can see just how diverse areas of the mosque are: Durante nuestra estancia en España estábamos afortunados por quedarnos en un lugar que tiene una historia abundante.

The very first night our group of of students arrived in Córdoba, we were treated to a beautiful tour of part of the city.  Between the incredible architecture and the gorgeous flora, this was certainly a night to remember.  Below are some of the sights which most captured my attention: La primera noche de nuestra vacación nosotros hicimos un tour por la hermosa ciudad de Córdoba. This tree is one of many of its kind found all over the city.  If one looks closely, one can see little green fruit hidden among the leaves.  However, if one tried to eat this fruit, one would instantly regret it.  The fruit, which is actually an immature orange, is so bitter that biting into one would surely make one wish that one had made a different choice.  If one thought that the mature oranges tasted any better, one woul
